could you give me some information on developing the issue of self-esteem for my youth department?Self-esteem is a
huge issue in dealing with teenagers today. It's great that you want
to try and tackle the issue with your youth
department.
Here are a few things to consider...
OPENING THE WORD: I'd want to make sure that your students have a
firm grasp on who they are in Christ. There are some great passages
to use
and to make sure that your students are exposed to - like Psalm 139
and Ephesians 2:8-10. There is also some great curriculum out there
that
deals with the issue of helping students see who they are in Christ.
Studies like the Neil Anderson material is wonderful.
MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES: Another great opportunity to teach on the
issue of self-esteem is by getting students involved in the ministry.
This
gives them the opportunity to express their God given giftedness
and talents. Doing that shows students the worth they have in Christ
and
the ability they have to serve Him through their passions and giftedness.
MISSIONS: Anytime we can get students out of their comfort zone,
they are confronted with the truth of God and gain a better and more
accurate
view of who they are in Christ. It helps them to evaluate their own
lives and take steps forward to put the most important things first.
Hope that helps! Keep seeking to help students ground an accurate
view of themselves in the person of Christ. They will see themselves
and
God more clearly. |
