using the circles with my students doug fields
my students HATE categories and stereotypes. how do you address any resistance to stereotyping encountered as the students grow through the circles (described in PDYM)?Your students should never feel stereotyped by the circles
because they should never see their names associated with them. The only time
I ever show our students the circles, is when I'm teaching them about who we
are trying to reach.
Our students see the baseball diamond as a picture of where we are trying
to move them in spiritual maturity. If you have already shown the circles to
your students, consider replacing them and promoting your purpose statement
every chance you get.
Here's a guideline to remember: The circles are for youth workers to evaluate
their ministry and strategize their programs, the purpose statement is expose
the students to the biblical purposes, and your picture is to show students
the intended path for spiritual growth. If you're reading this, and these terms
appear new to you, you might consider picking up a copy of Purpose Driven Youth
Ministry.
